Focus on Math

Helping children become mathematicians!

About Me February 10, 2011

Hi and welcome to my blog! My name is Carollee Norris and I am passionate about mathematics education! I believe deeply that students need to encounter mathematics in a way that allows them to make sense of it, to understand concepts, to manipulate numbers freely. I want students (and teachers) to love mathematics as much as I do, and that happens when they really get to get “messy” with the math.

After being first a classroom teacher and then the Numeracy Support Teacher for SD#60 in Fort St. John, BC, Canada, I am now a Mathematics Education Consultant working out of Comox, BC. I have been a sessional instructor for Simon Fraser University (SFU) teaching Designs for Learning Mathematics: Elementary. I served on the executive of the BC Association of Mathematics Teachers (BCAMT) for many years and present frequently at conferences and workshops around the province and in the US.

I hope you find some of my ideas interesting and useful, and I would love to hear from you! (My email address is carolleenorris@gmail.com)

Mathematically yours,

Carollee

    Hiya! Happy New Year 🙂

Besides the long winded KeyMath screener have you ever heard of the screener “Leaps and Bounds”? It’s also available in French…

    • Hi Johanne, and Happy New Year to you, too!
Leaps and Bounds, published by Nelson, should be a great intervention program! Although I have not looked at it in depth, I know the main author, Marian Small, by reputation. I use a number of her books. I can guarantee anything with her name on it will be top-notch!

Hi Carollee! It’s Johanne from Grande Prairie 🙂 Do you have some interesting thoughts and/or links that talk about “Quick Draws”?
